In 1901, the first steam train went from Williams, Arizona to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon but then stopped running in 1968 after automobiles took over. On September 17, 1989, 88 years after the first train to the canyon, the Biegert's brought the steam locomotive back. Today, we took the Grand Canyon Railway train..left at 9:30am and returned at 6pm. The maximum speed was 40 mph, and it was a very fun way to travel. The crew kept us entertained and scenery was awesome.
Before we boarded the train, some cowboys put on a show
she had us all singing along with her
The plains on the way to the Grand Canyon
and then we arrived..and had several hours to explore
SO AWESOME!
We had another musician entertain us on the way back
Several cowboys came up along the train...it was
a hold up! The little boys in our car were thrilled and had us all amused..
and we got back in time to catch a sunset
We are driving to the Canyon tomorrow and plan to hike down a ways
