Des Moines, Iowa and the Iowa State Fair

On our way to Des Moines, we stopped for a Maid-Rite (loose hamburger meat on bun), and got the picture above. The lady that did the butter cow lived here and this was a tribute in Toledo, Iowa.
Carol hadn't been to the Iowa State Fair since 1969 and had told Steve about it so often...finally, we got to the Fair..weather was beautiful, and cousin Mary Lou went with us. We also saw her son Mike and cousin Alice while in Des Moines. We are leaving today for South Dakota.
Tractor pull...well, taking folks from one end to the other..long ways!

lots of farm equipment..Steve couldn't get over the trees and how clean it was..lots of bathrooms, park benches to rest, always a concert or other activities going on all over..we missed cousin Scott's Heifer showing, but watched a few others show cattle

The Grandstands

Famous Butter Cow and astronaut in butter

and the animals...separate buildings for cattle, sheep, horses, poultry, and baby animals

Cousin Maggie had a dress and a picture entered in 4-H..blue ribbons

We started at 9am and left at 9pm, didn't do any rides except the skyway lift. Ate Pork Chop on a Stick, and Gizmo's..italian sausage on a toasted italian roll with cheese melted on top..only can get it at the Iowa and Minnesota State Fair. Wish I had one now..
