We drove from Wallace to the bottom of the trail at Pearson trailhead, and that is where 5 hours later we ended the ride. Along the route ther are many interpretive signs telling about the history of the railroad, the 1910 fire that destroyed many towns, and the old mining towns

There were many tunnels along the way, and we were required to have helmets and lights on the trail

and many bridges

Avery was one of the old mining towns

What wonderful views..and all downhill

We started in the 1.7 mile tunnel and road to the very top and back again to go down

Getting ready for the dark, cold ride in the tunnel..they told us we'd either love it or hate it..no in between. There were ditches on each side so had to ride in the middle..our lights worked great

the bikes on the bus going up

There were over 800 bikers over labor day weekend, so we almost had the place to ourselves this day. They open the trail Memorial Day (although this year it was still snow covered so delayed) and close October 4th.

The gravel roads along the way were scary in the truck and the bus..not so much on the bikes!
