Arrived in Orlando

We didn't have reservations at the camp ground for the weekend, so we tried Sheila and Vic's driveway, and it worked.
Sheila and I graduated from Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida...long time ago!
We'll be moving to the camp on Monday.

From Okeefenokee Swamp

Here are some of the Swamp pictures..lots of alligators, and they are real!

Leaving Georgia

The Georgia cousins really define Southern Hospitality! For those of you that don't know them, the 4 cousins, 3 boys and 1 girl came to spend summers in NC with Steve's family after their Mom died, so they were raised together. Here are Billy, Charlie, Wayne and Gwen.

In Waycross, Gwen with her Granddaughter Jessica and Wayne with wife Darlene. Missing is Gwen's husband Ricky and their 4 children... also 3 boys and a girl! That's Steve in the back.

Charlie and wife Beverly with daughter Jennie in St. Mary's

Billy and wife Kay in Savannah.

We have really enjoyed visiting them. One of the highlights of Waycross..other than the great fellowship and food, was going to Okefenokee Swamp Park. I've got lots of pictures of alligators and the swamp, but it is getting late and I'll deal with them later.
We're going to Florida tomorrow...no reservation so we will try a friend's driveway.

Waycross, Georgia

We arrived yesterday afternoon and got a spot near the Lake..nice view and finally we have spring weather..in the 70's, sunny and beautiful. Cousins came over last night for a cookout. This morning Steve and I took a nice bike ride and checked out the 1.3 mile trail..we're going to have to do that a bunch of times to burn the calories we're adding. Steve and cousin Wayne have gone to play golf, and Darlene and I are going to get lunch and tour some.

Leaving St, Mary's

We have had a great time here. Toured the historic area of St. Mary's and went to the submarine museum..very interesting. Steve and his 3 cousins played golf Saturday in the cold wind..I think they enjoyed it..especially the pair that won! Several of the "girls" toured Fernandina Beach, Florida and of course shopped. We went to church with the local family and then toured Jekyll Island...what a beautiful place. They recently opened a Sea Turtle Center, and we arrived just in time to observe feeding and an update on the condition of the injured turtles that they are attempting to treat..quite an impressive effort and very interesting. We have eaten great food here..lots of seafood and they are famous for the local shrimp..yummy.

We are headed to Laura Walker State Park in Waycross, Georgia today.

Historic St. Mary's, Georgia

We left Savannah this morning and are settled in Big Wheel RV Park across from Crooked River State Park in St. Mary's. We'll be here through the weekend. Weather is wonderful! St. Mary's has a waterfront where you can take a ferry to Cumberland Island..made famous by John Kennedy Jr.'s wedding. We'll let you know what we do here.

St. Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah

Today is daughter Katie's Birthday..Happy Birthday to you!

We've enjoyed our stay here, and in addition to seeing the sites, we've enjoyed time with cousin Billy and wife Kay. Attended Bible Baptist Church with them, enjoyed several meals out, and the best meal at their home. On St. Patrick's Day, we got downtown and set up our chairs at 7:30am for the 10:15am parade. We found a breakfast buffet at the Hilton..good thing we ate big, because the parade got to our spot at 11:30am and went for 3 hours! Next to us was on the cops family on one side, and their Aunt was visiting in an RV..more advice and in sights from her. On the other side were some little boys and other locals that drew the attention of most of the locals in the parade. This is the 2nd biggest in the Nation..in the parade were many walking families, bands, military, a few floats, the Clydesdale horses, clowns, and of course, local politicians! How about Steve's attire?

We leave tomorrow morning for St. Mary's, Georgia.

Savannah, Georgia

We reluctantly left the beautiful setting at the beach, and arrived at Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah. The park is a very wooded area...peaceful and quiet. We went to the grocery store and cooked dinner, then a long bike ride. Looking forward to the St. Patrick's Day celebration and exploring this area.

South Carolina

Here's a few pictures. The spot we have is great..the beach is right behind us. It is full of shells, and there are many bike paths to ride. See Steve's new squirely friend!

We leave tomorrow for Savannah after a long bike ride and walk on the beach..really nice.

On Our Way!

We hitched up the trailer, left NC, and came to Edisto Beach State Park in South Carolina as our first place to stay. The ocean is a few yards away from our camp site, and I'm listening to the waves crashing..love that sound! The park locked us in at 6pm so we didn't have much time to explore..but there is tomorrow. We've got T.V. hooked up and watching American Idol...all the comforts of home!

Going soon!

This week began with snow, and this last weekend in Raleigh for us is going to be in the 70's..weather is amazing! We are savoring our surroundings here as we prepare to leave our home, family, friends, church, favorite restaurants, etc...and our cat Daisy. Friend Becky will be taking good care of her. The travel trailer is almost all stocked and ready to go. We'll be leaving Tuesday, March 10th, and will spend two days at Edisto State Park in South Carolina. Next stop will be Savannah..more later!
