Grand Tetons & Jackson Hole, Wyoming

We stayed in a campground in the park that had no hook ups....and lots of sagebrush

A Moose came thru the campground..Snake River was right behind the campground and Moose like to graze near the rivers

Later in the day, we saw this Moose and her calf

There was a Mormon community here, and this is a home left behind when the park was expanded and they moved on

Lake Jenny and the Tetons

John Rockefeller bought 1100 acres in 1932, and deeded it later to his son Laurance who spent time here. In 2007, it was donated to the park. We hiked on a trail here.

We stopped in for a drink at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. Steve had a Virginia Tech shirt on, and we met a couple there that had just moved from Blacksburg. We told him our daughter Katie is a trainer there, and the Dr. knew Katie and had worked with her! We called Katie and she said that he was the Spine Dr. that she wanted Steve to come see...so he asked about Steve's back problems. What a nice couple...they have moved to Wyoming where he grew up...small world.
The Bar is famous for the saddles they use for bar stools.

We left here Sunday and drove about 100 miles to Idaho Falls, Idaho to a campground with full hookups, internet and cell service..life is good!

Yellowstone September 2 & 3

In the four days at Yellowstone, we did both loops and saw so many great sites. On September 4th we went about 50 miles to Grand Teton National Park. Lots of Bison..some of the males roam alone after mating..

Near the north entrance is Mammoth Hot Springs and we explored

These female Elk came to be with this guy below...he has a harem!

The rangers are there to keep people from approaching the Elk..they are wild animals but apparently like the grass near the buildings at Mammoth Springs

We went back to Canyon...it is the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and to the falls. We hiked Uncle Tom's trail

and here we are at the end of the trail in front of the water falls in the canyon...we have our camelbak's for water, and did frequent stops on the way back up

We went back to the Upper Geyser Basin and sat down to watch the biggest geyser of them all..the Grand. It was predicted to erupt between 2pm and 6pm..we got there about 4pm

So many of us were waiting, and we talked to several locals who encouraged us to wait
There was a small geyer, Turpin, next to Grand that bubbled up right before Grand, and then if nothing happened after she bubbled up, we knew we had 20 minutes more before Turpin came up again. Just past 6pm, she bubbled and up came Grand!

It lasted for about 10 minutes..very long for a geyser, and very tall, and it would go down and then shoot back up..very neat

We did get a view of another geyser, Beehive, while we were waiting for Grand

We walked around the upper basin and saw many other interesting formations

This is Giant Geyser and hasn't erupted in a long time

Great place to visit, and we had great weather..in the 70's during the day, and 40's at night..we turned on the heat at night. On to the next marvel of nature.

Yellowstone August 31 & September 1st..day 1 & 2

The Rocky Mountains with switchbacks were scary..we stopped here and the brakes were smoking. A local man stopped to give advice, he was a mechanic..nice people in Wyoming.

We came in the East entrance to Fishing Bridge Campground, and studied the map of Yellowstone. We drove about 38 miles to see Old Faithful..saw lots of Bison

The famous Old Faithful Inn...we had dinner here the first night

We all were waiting to see her blow, she kept us waiting about 25 minutes past the predicted time

we stopped on the way to Old Faithful to see the Kepler Cascades...there are so many sites to see

We went to Tower Fall and hiked to get a good view

We then continued on to Roosevelt Lodge and had a drink to relax next to the fireplace..we really liked it here

The Lodge has horse drawn wagons and horse back riding
